Terms of Use
Effective date: 14 October 2026
Welcome to The Crusade, a Catholic prayer app and website at thecrusade.app (the "Service"), run by Stephen Muzzeroll ("we", "us"). These Terms are an agreement between you and us. By using the Service, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use it. Our Privacy Policy (thecrusade.app/privacy) explains how we handle your information.
1. Who can use the Service
You must be at least 13 years old, or older where your country requires it. If you are under the age of majority where you live, a parent or guardian must agree to these Terms for you. The Service is not directed at children under 13.
2. Your account
You can sign in with Apple or Google. Keep your device and sign-in secure, because you are responsible for activity on your account. Let us know at support@thecrusade.app if you think someone else has accessed it.
3. Your licence to use the Service
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service for your own private, non-commercial devotional use, in line with these Terms and the rules of the app store you downloaded it from. You may not copy, resell, reverse-engineer or scrape the Service, or use automated means to access it, except where the law allows.
4. Your content
"Your content" means your journal entries, intentions, prayer requests and anything else you add.
-
You own it. Private journal entries and intentions stay private to your account.
-
Community posts. When you post an intention for others to see, you give us a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to host, store, display and moderate it within the Service. The licence lasts only while it is posted. It ends when you delete the post or your account, except for reasonable backup periods.
-
You confirm that you have the right to post what you share, and that it doesn't break the law or these Terms.
5. Community guidelines
Shared intentions are a place to ask for and offer prayer. Please be charitable. You agree not to post anything that:
-
is hateful or harassing, or demeans people for their religion, race, ethnicity, nationality, sex, sexual orientation, disability or any other characteristic;
-
threatens, bullies or encourages violence or self-harm;
-
reveals someone else's private information or identifies them without their consent;
-
is sexually explicit, unlawful, defamatory or deceptive;
-
is spam, advertising, fundraising or solicitation;
-
impersonates another person or misrepresents an affiliation, including claiming to speak for the Church.
Every community post is reviewed by a person before it appears. We may decline, edit for safety (for example, removing a surname or phone number), or remove any post. We may also suspend accounts that break these rules. You can report a post in the app. If a post suggests someone is in danger, we may share crisis resources and, where the law requires or a life may be at risk, contact the appropriate authorities.
6. Subscriptions and refunds
-
Core prayers are free. Pro is an optional paid subscription sold through the Apple App Store or Google Play.
-
Prices, billing periods and any free trial are shown before you buy. Subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
-
You manage and cancel subscriptions in your App Store or Google Play account settings. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
-
Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their own policies. We cannot issue store refunds directly. This does not affect any rights you have under consumer law, such as statutory cancellation rights in the UK or EU.
-
We may change prices or features with advance notice, as the stores require. Price changes apply from your next renewal.
7. Devotional content, not professional advice
The Service offers prayers, Scripture and reflections for personal devotion.
-
It is not medical, mental-health, counselling, legal or financial advice, and it is not a crisis service. If you or someone else is in danger, contact local emergency services (911 in the US and Canada, 999 or 112 in the UK) or a crisis line right away.
-
It is not official Church teaching. Reflections written for The Crusade are our own devotional writing. The Service does not speak for the Catholic Church or any diocese unless an official source is expressly cited. For spiritual direction or questions of faith and morals, please speak with a priest.
-
We work hard to check traditional prayers against their printed sources. Still, mistakes can happen. Please tell us if you find one.
8. Intellectual property and art credits
The Service, including its design, code, logo, the name "The Crusade", and original writing, belongs to us or our licensors and is protected by law. Traditional prayers, the Douay-Rheims Bible and the public-domain artworks we use are not owned by us. Artworks are credited on our Art credits page (thecrusade.app/credits), and the sources of prayer texts are listed on our Sources page (thecrusade.app/sources). Our photographic reproductions and arrangements may still carry their own rights. Please don't reuse our logo or branding without permission.
If you believe something on the Service infringes your rights, write to support@thecrusade.app with details and we will look into it promptly.
9. Availability and changes to the Service
We may add, change or remove features, and the Service may sometimes be unavailable for maintenance or reasons outside our control. If we discontinue a paid feature, we will give reasonable notice. Any refund is handled through the store, as described in section 6.
10. Disclaimers
To the extent the law allows, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. Some places don't allow these exclusions, so they may not all apply to you.
11. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) USD 50. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Nothing here affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
12. Indemnity
If you break these Terms or the law through your content or conduct, and someone brings a claim against us as a result, you agree to cover our reasonable losses and costs, to the extent the law allows. This does not apply to consumers where local law forbids it.
13. Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time in Settings. We may suspend or end your access if you seriously or repeatedly break these Terms, if the law requires it, or if continuing would create risk for other users. Where reasonable, we will tell you why and give you a chance to export your data first. Sections 4 (as to licences already used), 7, 8, 10, 11, 12 and 15 survive termination.
14. Apple and Google
If you use the iOS app, Apple is not responsible for the Service or its support, is a third-party beneficiary of these Terms, and may enforce them against you. These Terms are between you and us, not Apple or Google. Each store's own terms also apply to your download and purchases.
15. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Vietnam, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. However, if you are a consumer living in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, the European Union or another country, nothing in these Terms takes away the mandatory consumer protections of the law where you live, and you may bring claims in your local courts where that law allows. Before starting any formal claim, please contact us at support@thecrusade.app so we can try to resolve it informally.
16. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. We will change the effective date above, and for material changes we will give notice in the app or by email before they take effect. If you keep using the Service after changes take effect, you accept the updated Terms. If you don't agree, you can stop using the Service and delete your account.
17. General
If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. If we don't enforce a term straight away, we haven't waived it. You may not transfer these Terms. We may transfer them to someone who takes over the Service, with notice to you. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between us about the Service.
