Prayer for each day

Precious Blood of Jesus, poured out for me, wash away my sins, protect me from evil and make me grateful. Amen.

Day by day

Day 1: Circumcision

And after eight days were accomplished, that the child should be circumcised, his name was called JESUS, which was called by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.

Luke 2:21, Douay-Rheims

Lord Jesus, at your circumcision on the eighth day you first shed your Precious Blood and received the name Jesus. Even as an infant you began to pay the price of our salvation. Teach me to reverence your holy name. Amen.

Day 2: Agony in the garden

And his sweat became as drops of blood, trickling down upon the ground.

Luke 22:44, Douay-Rheims

Lord Jesus, in the garden your sweat became as drops of blood trickling down upon the ground. By your agony, strengthen all who are afraid or in anguish, and help me to pray, Not my will, but thine be done. Amen.

Day 3: Scourging

But he was wounded for our iniquities, he was bruised for our sins: the chastisement of our peace was upon him, and by his bruises we are healed.

Isa 53:5, Douay-Rheims

Lord Jesus, you were scourged at the pillar. He was wounded for our iniquities, and by his bruises we are healed. By the blood of your scourging, heal me of impurity and of every sin of the flesh. Amen.

Day 4: Crowning with thorns

And platting a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand. And bowing the knee before him, they mocked him, saying: Hail, King of the Jews.

Matt 27:29, Douay-Rheims

Lord Jesus, the soldiers plaited a crown of thorns and put it on your head, mocking you as king. By the blood of your crowning, heal my pride and my sinful thoughts, and reign as King in my mind. Amen.

Day 5: Way of the Cross

And as they led him away, they laid hold of one Simon of Cyrene, coming from the country; and they laid the cross on him to carry after Jesus.

Luke 23:26, Douay-Rheims

Lord Jesus, you carried your Cross to Calvary, and Simon of Cyrene was made to carry it after you. By the blood shed on the way of the Cross, give me strength to take up my cross daily and follow you. Amen.

Day 6: Crucifixion

And when they were come to the place which is called Calvary, they crucified him there: and the robbers, one on the right hand, and the other on the left. And Jesus said: Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. But they, dividing his garments, cast lots.

Luke 23:33-34, Douay-Rheims

Lord Jesus, nailed to the Cross, you prayed, Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. By the blood of your hands and feet, forgive my sins and teach me to forgive those who wound me. Amen.

Day 7: The pierced side

But one of the soldiers with a spear opened his side: and immediately there came out blood and water.

John 19:34, Douay-Rheims

Lord Jesus, a soldier opened your side, and blood and water flowed out. From your pierced side the Church and her sacraments were born. Wash me in that fountain of mercy. Amen.

Day 8: The chalice at Mass

For this is my blood of the new testament, which shall be shed for many unto remission of sins.

Matt 26:28, Douay-Rheims

Lord Jesus, at the Last Supper you said, This is my blood of the new testament, shed for many unto remission of sins. Increase my faith in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, and let me receive you with reverence and love. Amen.

Day 9: Washed clean

And I said to him: My Lord, thou knowest. And he said to me: These are they who are come out of great tribulation and have washed their robes and have made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

Apoc 7:14 [Rev 7:14], Douay-Rheims

Lord Jesus, the saints in heaven have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Wash my soul clean, keep me in your grace, and bring me with them to everlasting life. Amen.
